Angelina Jolie has been handed a major unofficial honor in her adopted son Maddox’s native Cambodia – a world-famous Hindu temple has been named after her.
Rajan Zed, the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, tells WENN the movie star is so beloved in Cambodia one religious site in Angkor has been renamed the Angelina Jolie Temple.
He says, “It’s a 12th century site called Ta Prohm; it is otherwise known as Old Brahma and was initially named Rajavihara or the royal monastery. Now it’s popularly called the Angelina Jolie Temple.
“It was said to be the setting for various scenes in the first ‘Tomb Raider’ film… Local restaurants sell ‘Tomb Raider’ cocktails and she appears to be the patron saint of Cambodia.”
Zed insists the unofficial renaming comes with a great responsibility – and he’d like the actress to consider helping to maintain the ancient site.

they are soiling this great architectual site by honoring it with someone else name to just because they are famous and adopting a kid.
- Angelina doest care about cambodia, if she did she visit it more, and not build an expensive house in the jungle and visit it like once every 5 years.
-this is appalling and just shows how much khmer people bow down to somone because of their money and fame.
adopt ten kids from cambodia and is a big movie star or what not, are they gonna adapt a new name for Angkor Wat too….
these people who see this rights are just morons, because instead of teaching them the legacy of the true name and history, the future generation will call it Angelina Temple or whoever temples.

wth..I appreciate her adopting a Khmer kid and giving him education and a good life, and all the other good things that she’s doing, but to name a temple after her is just wrong.
if that’s the case, they should have named if after that Hollywood producer who helps hundreds of kids in PP…so lame! the temple’s name, Ta Prum, is fine already, please!

nobody is blaming her, she probably doesn’t even know about it. It’s the officials, whoever thought up of the name change that is to be blamed.

There is history behind each and every one of the prasats/temples and to think that it is now known as the tomb raider or angelina jolie temple is plain wrong. Can we as Khmer citizens voice our disapproval? Is there a mean for us to do that?

Dude did u even read the article? Is just a NICK NAME!!!!!!!! It ain’t say nuttin about re naming it, the article is about a hindu group want jolie to make awarness about hindu temple looting that is all since the temple made famous in the tomb raider movie.
The article stated that most westerner label ta phom temple as jolie or tomb raider temple which is true because tomb raider did make It famous that is all the article was saying. Shake my head for everyone who think khmer actaully change the temple name. Article also stated since jolie make it famous, she should PROMOTED temple looting awareness

It’s not his fault since you bafoons were too lazy to read beyond the thread’s title. It’s Justen’s intention to incite (as he usually does with his posted articles) and you all fell for it.
Rajan Zed sounds like an Indian name to me. I don’t know who he is or what authority he has, but he has lips with an intention to further his cause, apparently… Hinduism. It’s not a bad thing, but he’s clearly out of line. If Jolie is to be honored this way (which is unlikely), it would be coming from the Cambodian authority, not some Indian guy with a mouth piece.
And if you think it’s crazy naming a national treasure site after a movie star then consider a political celebrity winning a Nobel Piece Prize for getting elected.
