beliefs without knowledge?

Do share what you’ve heard….

Here’s mine from the trip last Sunday:

My friend and I went from house to house to deliver the donation to flood victims, one of them was her grade 1 classmate- a sweet girl..I think we are the same age. She was carrying a lil boy in her arms, another 10 yr old boy was eating near her, and a man was sitting not far from her. I thought they were her husband and kids until my friend told her story and the man was her brother and those were his kids. Many years back she was engaged to a guy, and just one day before their wedding the guy got really drunk and died in his sleep. The villagers believed that she was a man-eater who brought bad luck because her future husband died just one day before the wedding. Since then no men wanted to marry her, and it looks like she’s gonna be single for the rest of her life.

My first reaction to the story was..”BS!…..”

“… and it looks like she’s gonna be single for the rest of her life.”

Sometimes this is a blessing.
If she is meant to be single for the rest of her life, I wish it is so in her case.

I think some of you might have heard about that story Rithisen Neang Kong-rey, and about Phnom Neang Kong-rey in Kompong Chnang province. In that story neang kong-rey died and became that mountain, and ma’om (a type of plant we use to put in our soup) is her private hair, and any wizards or people practicing black magic will lose their power if they eat the plant because it’s her private hair.

Boy! They must believe that the story was real and that mountain was really her.

why? you think she wants to be single for the rest of her life or she should be so? I don’t think she wants to.

I don’t know what she wants.
I’m just hoping for the best for her.

so to you the best for her is being single with no husband n kids…well, everyone has their own view.
To me, the best for her is being able to live a normal life like every other girl, not being avoided by guys, get married, have kids, grandkids….

I said sometimes being single can be a blessing.
(we all know…not every marriage results in happiness)
If she’s meant to be single for the rest of her life…
If that is her fate, then i wish it’s a “blessing” for her.

If she finds someone in the future, I’m happy for her too.

instead of condemning her, those people should look at her situation from a different prospective.

I think she’s lucky that he died before they got married.
Do they even know what killed him? (they’re blaming her.)
What if whatever he had could be passed to her?
What if he died after they had a baby?

Another one:
Twin brother and sister were husband and wife in the past life and they wished to be together again the next life that’s y they were born twins. Khmer people would have a small wedding ceremony for them when they are big enough to understand what they are told to do- like sit still while others give them blessings.

The story highlights the influence of religion and the lack of education these people have to modern science.

1. No one knows for sure if they were really husband and wife in the past life.
2. Biology dictates that inbreeding is not healthy for the offspring as it can cause birth defects.

every culture has folk lures like this, its sad that our culture carry these believes/practice to extremes. I heard a very bad one when I went to visit a while back, my uncle told me some idiots there believe if you have aids you can cure yourself by sleeping with a virgin girl.

hhmmm….sorry I left something out, they believe the wedding ceremony is necessary to protect both of them or they will die, but they don’t really become husband and wife when they grow up.

Well we should be lucky that Cambodia even with corrupt laws still have law and order. The same beliefs about the virgins is very rampant in many lawless nations of Africa, hense the AIDS pandemic.

Even to this day you hear news about whole rebel army pillaging and raping women in the AFrican nations due to their belief of virgins healing powers.

Another sick and disturbing believe … again in Africa there is also the practice of voodoo and witches. These practice are merely a scapegoat for extreme poverty and diseases. Basically through the villages people would go to their respective church and tell their story and suffering, etc…. The priest then would diagnose the problems and narrow it down to a witch in the family. The witch is usually takes form a child of that family, thus family abandons and/or kill the child. Now this is not just one village, but pretty mmuch the whole country. This is just sickening and adding problems for the already plague.

If your interested about Voodoo child of africa watch it here

yes, I’ve heard some rich guys did that, but with virgins.

A similar one, if a guy slept with a virgin and drank that blood he would have enormous strength.
wondering what he needs that strength for- to perform in bed or to work and feed his family.

These people aka Witch Doctors are the criminal who use religion and outdated beliefs to obscure people minds to the point of killing your own child. I know all cultures have beliefs and tales, but most nation outside of Africa have grown to accept 21th century of medicine and treatment of people. Some still exist in some areas, but no way in the extreme level as those of africas.

Negerian Witch children all abandoned by their parents because of foolish beliefs.

These children are lucky that werent too abused by their parents or even killed.
