I honestly think that those movies are great tools for language building. I know many of us grew up watching these translated Chinese flicks. Not only were the stories long and engaging, it taught me how to speak Khmer. Does anyone agree? Or am I some Outlier? NUFF SAID.

I’m not sure if you get the channel called “Bravo” but they are good movies on that channel. Not necessarily just asian, pretty much from many different country.

    Always subtitled.

Check this movie out, I believe it’s one of the greatest.

    The Red Lantern (Chinese)
    Molena (Italian)

I can’t think of others right now, but I’ll keep ya posted.

i agree with u…the translated chinese (and thai) movies help build up khmer vocabulary. well, it did for me and my sisters. :o) plus, it helped (helps?) motivate me to read and write khmer (good to know the title of a movie before renting it…hehe)

Thai movies are so boring, you can start on the first tape and then skip to the very last tape and still understand what\\\’s goin on. Some chinese movies are like that too, but most of them are way better than thai movies.

Yeah, I agree with you Sam, it really did help me built on my khmer vocabulary. But I still need more, hehe. Well, anyways sorry to hear that there is no khmer video store down there. One great movie I recommend is The Condor Hero. It’s very good.

I still think Thai movie is better (cos the guyz are cute :D ):D!!!
Cos chinese movie is too fake, the fighting i mean.
My dad loves chinese movie, he can watch it 24/7. I guess cos he likes the fighting (boo)
Funny chinese movies are the best..but only the one part tape movies.
Not the ones with 10 tapes and 6 hrs on each tape…eeekkk..like Freekshow said, i’ll rather watch grass grow too.

Oh please! Thai movies suck! Same thing over and over. So boring! and cry me a river! Only good thing about them are the good looking actors. The mixed ones, especially Bandit. hehe :P Chinese movies are tops on my list. Love everything about them. Teach you a lot by watching them. If you haven’t seen the movie with the guy who is a judge and has a black face, Bao or something like that, then you have to rent it! It’s a GREAT movie. Teaches you about the lessons in life and is really packed with action, mystery and all that good stuff. :)

Actually I liked them both cuz even tho the 2000 version is suppose to be the same story, there are changes in the storyline and in the characters. So even if you’ve already seen the old one, u’ll get surprised by a lot of things in it. Plus, Dicky Cheung who plays Siu Pao is really cool…

I grew up watching Chinese Movies and Thai Movies with my parents. Personally, I don’t really like Thai movies because they are overly dramatic. I remember one in which a poor girl marries this one guy, whom she was deeply in love with, then her brother dies and she puts a marker on his forehead, then when she had a baby, the baby had a birthmark on her forehead (How exciting . . . notice my sarcasm). To me, thai movies are way too mushy mushy . . . yuck. All the actors are like mixed with something. NUFF SAID
