For all you haters and bashers, you guys have a lot of guts when you type and talk smack on the computer. Your hearts are full of envy, but lack elementary courage. You know nothing of my sister, yet you judge and criticize her as if you yourselves can even make it as far as she did. Liz is the first Cambodian person to achieve such an accomplishment, yet the only words you can express are criticisms and hate. Congradulations, I hope your crass remarks and condescending attitudes help boost your egos. The sad truth is, it’s just a reflection of your own frustrations and insecurities.

This is my first time on this stupid forum and you guys disgust me with your comments. I would expect Cambodians to support each other since we all share the same dark past full of pain and sufferings, but the youth these days tend to easily forget the tribulations of the past. To forget where you came from is to denounce any honor or respect left from your heritage.

How would you yourselves perform or let alone memorize the lyrics, even to a simple and stupid pop song, with two overbearing and hateful white girls hating on you right from the start because you were different and Asian. My sister was judged right off the bat when she randomly chose her fate with the group of “wicked Step-*!#@^es”. They turned on her even before she sang her first note or spoke her first word. Their goal was to defame her character and her chances to the next round because she has more talent than they can ever hope to attain. What you saw on the clips were her trying to defend herself. They didn’t show all the other nasty things those girls did to Liz or how they ostercized her from the choreography of the dance. My sister took the high ground when she told Paula that she messed up because of lack of sleep instead of the truth, which was that those two *!#@^es were playing unfairly in a “team” activity. No, she didn’t complain about being excluded from the group or how rude they were to her. Instead she kept it professional and that led to her dismissal. Yes, the competition is unfair if you’re a minority and you’re grouped with some *!#@^#*up chicks, but that’s life!

The most sincere caption of who Elizabeth Pha is was when she looked into the camara and said, “I am a beautiful person.” If you ever have the privelige to meet my sister in person, you would hold your tongue before you start to make any kind of judgements. Based on what I’m reading in this “supportive” community, I wouldn’t let any of you come close to her within a 50 foot radius.

Are all of you so naive that you assume racism and discrimination are no longer prevalent in 2005? Will it make you sleep more peacefully to be oblivious to the fact that Asians still don’t have a voice yet in the media? We are the only minority left that still does not have adaquate representation.

Antagonizing and berating my baby sister will only make you look more ignorant if you can’t see the truth of the situation.

With that said, open your eyes if you want to see the truth. Support your fellow Khmers if you want self-empowerment.

I dont think anybody was attacking her. They just saw what was put on TV. The fact is, she cant a remember a few lines. She shouldnt let those girls discourage her. This is life, nobody wants others to be better than them. That’s exactly what those two girls did, and they did well. YOu sister fall into their traps, letting their remarks get to her. People will do anything to f*** you over. In the game of fame and fortune, it’s not as easy as you see on TV. There are many obstacles go through. You sister let others affect her performance and abilities.

YEs I’m happy to see asian making it to the media. I hope she didnt take this event in her life negatively. Learn from her mistakes, failures only makes you strongers and be more aware. You fall and come back straigh up. YOu gotta take a few criticism and punches to make it anywhere in life.

I wish her very well and do the best she can do.

People were judging her of what they know and saw. I’m sorry if they did not show all the clips of what they did to her and not know the whole truth, but none-the-less, it’s what the people saw, and people will be quick to judge. Your sister can take this as a experience and move on, and for everyone that seen your sister perform, they will have opinions about her. Some good, some bad, and there will be those who support her.

Just look for the support, but learn from the critism. You don’t become the best being upset and sad.

hpha1978, I understand your irritation very well. I would do the same in your position as a sister/brother. But consider this. All of those contestant were there for everyone to judge. Your sister did her best. I would love it even more if she wins the whole competitions. It would also gave the Khmer moral boost. None of us Khmer would like to defame nor to degrade their own for that matter. What is to be judge and has been judge. I don’t think it’s a good idea to expect all Khmer to be sigle-minded and be supportive of what seems to be a small setback of her under-achievement. We all have our say and our views. I would not limit our own people to be patriotic and be supportive inspite of her little setback.

Uh-Cha made a supperb comment by my standard. Khmer are known to be very frank and true to themselves; relative to our SE Asian neighbors. *hint*hint* I hope your sister will not take this any more negatively. Don’t let this little criticism ride on your back or hers.

I WAS ROOTING FOR HER TOO. I PRAYED TO GOD THAT SHE WOULD WIN. BUT ANYWAYS…..MY POINT IS THAT IT IS OBVIOUS SHE WAS TOLD SHE WOULD HAVE FEW CHANCES OF WINNING AND WOULD PAY HER TO LOSE ON THE SHOW BY “FORGETTING THE LYRICS.” YOU ARE DUMB IF U BELIEVE WHAT U SEE ON TELEVISION. I WOULD ACCEPT THE MONEY TOO IF IT WAS LIKE TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS OR MORE. BY THE WAY, SHE IS NOT ALL THAT LOOKING. I WOULD NEVER BE JEALOUS OF HER, SHE LOOKS LIKE A FREAK. A LOT OF CAMBODIAN GIRLS LOOK PRETTIER THAN LIZ PHA…AND CAN SING JUST AS WELL!!!!

the problem is that there’s a fine line between criticism and flat out being rude. and many KCer’s were flat out rude with their remarks.

Elizabeth needs to take a Communication class, and listen to more songs. That song is a pretty popular oldies. If you love singing and music, there’s no excuse for not being able to learn a simple song like that. Especially when you’re only required to learn your part.
I was rooting for her, as I can see that she can sing. What’s with the thick dark eyeliner all around her eyes? She should stop hanging around older Khmer singers/Karaoke stars.

THis thread just prove another point. She just another coward, weakling who cant SPEAK UP for herself. WHo the hell is she to have somebody do the talking for her. What, is she soo special and soo famous that she make it to hollywood that she cant sign up for KC and post a response for herself, letting somebody else do the dirty work.

You think the PResident wants to make speeches everywhere he go. You think the president doesnt have criticisms everytime he makes speeches. At least he DOES what do, to tell people from HIS own MOUTH to talk it to THE PEOPLE. Shees, what an insecure girl, with an attitude like that, she wont make it anywhere and this thread proves it. I got no respects for her, N.O. period.

Of course, but the words coming out from a President have a more powerful effect than a secretary or any other govt officials. He’s a president for a reason.

I actually like her and her voice. I didn’t understand her style at all. C’mon the clothes were terrible. I was rooting for her and was glad that she made that far in the competition. I don’t know, I have mixed feeling about her…but I’m glad to see a khmer on American idol this year.

i dont think non of us are losing sleep over ms.pha psychological theatrical performance. this is an online community. defend your pple but be ready to take some tongue lashing especially if you are somewhat of a celeb,.

janey, so when you say get over it..are you playing the cliche im too cool to care about this cause i got me a free get out of jail card? because i and lots of pple here dont particularly know what it is that we have to get over.

is it a pot hole, a hill, mountain? cause it would help us all a lot if you’re more specific..

she’s just another contestant that got kicked off a tv reality show because she didn’t perform up to par. i don’t know what all the rubbish is all about. get over it people.

To tell you the truth… I don’t feel sorry for her at all. All because of her style and the way she protrayed herself.

I know thats not how she is like in real life, I know she was just trying to be different. Next time, if she decides to do the compitition again, just let her be herself.

I have no sympathy or support for “fake” people. Theres a reason why Kelly Clarkson and the other Idols won in the past…. there “real.” They are themselves. They are average people with talent… not Freaks.

it’s funny how some people never take responsibility for their action
they are always looking to shift the blame on someone or something else

american idol is a competition
and in a competition you will be judged not only by randy, paula and simon but
by the viewers
if you can’t take the heat than stay out of the spotlight

she was horrible.. your sister in other words, totally sucked.. learn to take criticism. if i was Simon, she wouldn’t have make it to Hollywood. i would probably tell her to go back to Srey Sophuns Karaoke bar..continue her career there..hey what the heck!..maybe she’ll become a very talented Wedding Singer..

This is KC and it’s not a supportive “community” whatsoever. It’s a site where people, generally Khmer people “over-voice” their unsufficient opinions and think other Khmers would care it about. Do you think I care enough what other Khmers think of me when I post my unsufficient opinions on this site. I just come on this site to get kicks. The act of Khmers supporting other Khmers in any field is nonexisting, unless it benefits the person doing the supporting.
