    ^do you have any specific info/bio of the above mythical creature?

    For the Khmer Hanuman, does he follow the same history and bio of the Hindu/India Hanuman?

    ^^Oh, I need to write about them.
    I forgot about the Hindu Hanuman, I think there’s a little bit
    different.

    The Hindu Hanuman is very different from the Khmer hanuman. The Hindu Hanuman is very holy and serene, while the Khmer Hanuman is mischievous. Indians are very surprised to learn the Khmer Hanuman is not celibate. The Khmer Hanuman had a fling with Neang Machha, and had a child with her.

    Hi Simoneek,

    I know we’ve discussed Neang Savan Maccha in the other thread as well, but if “Neang Savan Machha” is the Khmer term for, “mermaid”, what is the name of the mermaid that Hanuman had a fling with? In other words, what is the name of the “Neang Savan Machha” who fell in love with Hanuman? For that reason, I doubt that, “Neang Savan Macchaa” is the khmer word for, “mermaid”. You see where I’m coming from?

    I think Neang Savan Macchha is the name of a mermaid. We have yet to figure out the Khmer word for, “Mermaid”.

    Thanks for the info. No wonder when I googled the two hanumans, their appearance came out pretty different. I have to say that I prefer the Khmer Hanuman over the Hindu/Indian one, not only because I’m Khmer, but because this Khmer Hanuman appears to have more human qualities and a monkey-like qualities, being mischievous, than the other one .

    In defence of Simoneek

    Neang = female or woman
    Machha = of having to do with ocean life

    so that is almost the direct meaning of mermaid … ???
