the movie is geared towards the states if its going to be a big movie anyways, so Cena popularity there isn’t going to translate to the states, I mean man how can anyone take a movies seriously with a wrestler as the lead actor?

i havent seen any of his movie. I dont even watch wrestling. But i hope he will do a good job.

he’s huge in Cambodia.
I remember seeing so many kids wearing John Cena t-shirts.
My cousins in Phnom Penh even named one of their dogs John Cena!

It’s ridiculous that any of you are taking John Cena seriously! He cannot act! He’s an FN wrestler! He does stupid B movies. They wouldn’t use big wrestlers for epic roles…why the hell they gonna start now. The thought of him coming up shows how fishy this story is.

Nothing wrong with John Cena. He’s a cool guy. In fact, I wore his T-shirt to Angkor Watt and Angkor Thom.

If people doesn’t like John Cena as King Jay the 7th, what about Brad Pitt. Oh that be another Mr. And Mrs. Smith. :D

I think Brad Pitt would be too old for the role. He’s not in his prime like he was in Trojan. Man, thinking about it, there’s no more cool action hero movie actor anymore. They all old. Nowaday it’s those preppy looking actor like that guy in Twilight. What happen to cool male role models?

I dont think Pitt is old, makeup and cgi can make him look like he was in his teens like “benjamin button” movie. Anyways I hope the movie is more focused on the good stuff, but one shouldn’t think this is all positive, if history is true based on ankors depictions on its walls, our ancestors were pretty cruel, Angkor was build mainly by enslaved people around the area and you cant be a big empire like that without being crazy ruthless and killing everything in site.

well, i’m not very good with the entertainment industry, but i can see how a wrestler turning actor can raise a few feathers. but, base on the pictures below, i can see the resemblance a bit. it’s all on the chin. the chin, nose, mouth, forehead, have to be broad. since Jayavaraman VII was a warrior, turning to a wrestler was the more probable choice. now, let’s see if the guy can carry it off with his eyes, his demeanor, and not to mention his acting ability. i bet there are lessons on this and that often times, hollywood actors tend to study their roles and dig up lots of history about their subjects. they wouldn’t want to do a botch-up job, especially regarding an epic film, i think. all the best, though.

The guy can’t act. If we got Jayavaraman VII himself, we can’t use him if he can’t act.

like i said, i don’t know much about the film industry. perhaps Mr. Thomas (forgot his last name) see something about him that we can’t see at the moment. plus, if we have a share in the shooting budget, perhaps, he’ll listen to our complaints. who knows. it really sucks when we have something to show the world and we can’t do it due to lack of money and what have us that limits us. well, Mr. Thomas (in lieu of his last name) is making that claim and it will be done in 3 yrs or so. i’m sure they’re aware of the import of the film and that there are cultural preservation crews abound to keep them on the right tract or something.

though, Mr. Cena has the resemblance, i did mention about lessons and such…implying that Mr. Cena is perhaps aware of the import of his role and due to his limited background as an actor, he won’t do a botch-up job at it, i think that is the usual case with hollywood actors. they take their career rather seriously.

i don’t know about Mr. Thomas much, but he’s spending around $70M on the film. so, i’m sure he has confidence in Mr. Cena to get it right. perhaps we should see how it turns out before we bark on it. that’s just my suggestion.

thanks for the link. though, i wished there was no voice-over for Mr. Magyar (got it). i like his reasoning, too. on the technical aspect, i don’t know since i’m no producer/editor/etc. of any movie production. however, on the cultural aspect, i see a sincerity on his part. he wants to portray Cambodia like it used to be, a powerful empire, not like now and in the process bring awareness to the world of what belongs to Cambodia. this is very important—what belongs to Cambodia. Cambodia is slowly dissolving and having someone bring to awareness of the process, to say hey! pay attention!, is more than what we can do individually, since it will reach a wider audience internationally.

from what i gathered, i believe Mr. Jet Li will be his chief body guard or something, not preah reach chea, which implies that he is a reigning monarch, if i get that translation right?

i’m not sure about Princeess Soma as Naga Princess, though another version has a Naga Princess as the Original Queen of Cambodia. Our Khmer legend has it where our race is pretty mixed—Indian and Chinese (Preah Neang Liu Yi, an example, where She was Queen of Khmer). i bet they’re the same person, just that depending on where we come from, we call them by different names. btw, was IndraDevi wife of JayaVaraman VII? so, why was Princess Soma mentioned? i think they were from different era.

If you can’t act, you can’t act. No amount of lessons can change that. He’s great at being in front of an audience, but horrible at acting. Same with many actors that can act, but are horrible speakers. The thought of Cena coming up just gives this guy less credibility. From what I know, he has no movie producing experience, he hasn’t secured the money. He’s mostly parading Cambodia. He’s co-producing with a B/C celebrity. Doesn’t seem like he got verification from a studio…I’m assuming if it was, the money would be there.

This story is so damn fishy….but it just might work.

Yes IndraDevi is Jayavaramen wife, So who is Princess Soma? that’s the role Angelina Jolie is playing. From my knowledege I thought Princes soma was the Naga princess. Korean actress Song Hye Kyo is playing as Princess Soma sister.

like i said, it depends on what we cling to as a source. one source says this name and another another name, but certain things/events appear to coincide with each other. anyway, i have no source to back what i’m saying. i’m just saying. i would agree with you that Princess Soma was the Naga Princess. here, i’m just stressing that one should keep an open mind to things and not really cling to things much.

i will reserve further judgment upon my own exposure to the links you or others posted, but based on your questions below of Princess Soma, i don’t know. i assume Jolie will play JayaVaraman’s wife. but, if she is his wife and her name is Princess Soma, then it appears there is a discrepancy in the script, wouldn’t it? as for her Princess Soma’s sister, i have no idea. i assume, they are exercising their poetic license of sort with filming. if this movie is to have credit, then it is vital for a historian on the subject to have a say in the production, wouldn’t you think?

it is to my belief that wrestlers are a bunch of actors. but, to give yourself credit, it is not the kind of acting we as the general audience might be looking for, huh? however, can we be so stringent in our view as to adamantly allow no opportunity for others to showcase their various talents that might be hidden from our eyes?

opportunities are hard to come by. if a “no-body” (no movie producing experience) shows up and say, “i’m casting you as my lead actor in a epic film” and manage to recruit some high profile actors like Joli and Jet Li, wow!, wouldn’t that mean something? at any rate, the first step to anything is faith in talents. some have ingrained talents, and some can hone in their talents through experience. someone like Mr. Magyar came along and gives you that break, it is practically a miracle, wouldn’t you say?, and hang on and give it your best? now, for the directing and producing part, since Mr. Magyar is skilled in that field, why don’t we let him take care of that end, eh? it is important that he line up his stars, his crews, etc. a good part of success deals with preparation. and if it is fishy, nothing kills more than stamping down an opportunity in the bud. i just hope that his script-writing is historically accurate, at least.

Wrestling is more public speaking, which is very different from acting. If you look at many actors, they are not good speakers and sound so boring. The Rock and John Cena are horrible actors.

John Cena would probably take it without hesitation and probably could care less about the empire and its ppl. This is a great opportunity for Mr. Magyar to make a lot of money, who doesn’t seem to have any producing experience? If he really cared about it being accurate, he wouldn’t have chosen a white person…especially Cena, who happens to probably be the bigggest wrestler in the world right now. By the way it sounds, this movie is really all about money, and the story will be as that. Gonna be another story full of lies in order to make a profit.

I will definitely download it.

I3ig,

something gotta give. one can’t have everything, you know. now, it looks like Mr. Magyar is recruiting actors. it is not official where these high profile actors are accepting, are they? at any rate, there is opportunity for suggestion, right?, if Mr. Magyar is willing to accept. why don’t you shoot a suggestion mail and let him know how you feel and give him a laundry list of best-suited actors/actresses? i’m sure he’ll appreciate that very much.

frankly speaking, if one is in the film business or looking to be in one, and does not look for profit, then it is not worth being in it in the first place. aside from this, it appears Mr. Magyar has a pretty good background. he’s very involved with Cambodia once upon a time as evident by his published book among many things as (——) had provided the link to. now, he is involving at least 3 countries—-Cambodia, obviously, Hungary and USA.

what i’m trying to say is that, whether due to greed or what have a person, there is someone here that is genuinely trying to portray Khmer history to the universe. it is no longer hidden in the jungle. this is really important. Mr. Magyar is like a rock that jolts the wheel to turn on its axis pertaining to the stagnant nature of what is called Khmer and all that is deem important. shouldn’t we encourage the guy rather than shoot him down at the first chance we get?

i understand your skepticism and i can understand your Khmer pride. but, let us face it. whether or not one accepts it, Khmer have more pride than brain, for otherwise they would have known that the country is all but gone saved for the facade of one. if Khmer have any more brain, they would have done their own production already than to let someone like Mr. Magyar staking that claim. now, when some one is making that claim, would we still cling to pride?

would these people who choose to make an epic film on some culture really intentionally want to spit on that culture or learn about that culture for understanding and for respect? humility goes a long way. let us remember that.

opportunities are hard to come by. if a “no-body” (no movie producing experience) shows up and say, “i’m casting you as my lead actor in a epic film” and manage to recruit some high profile actors like Joli and Jet Li, wow!, wouldn’t that mean something? at any rate, the first step to anything is faith in talents. some have ingrained talents, and some can hone in their talents through experience. someone like Mr.

Honestly, I just stopped caring about the movie. If Khmer ppl don’t care…I shouldn’t care. I do think it’s true that many Khmers lack brain. We take pride in a production that will exclude Khmers from important top roles. And we’re excited about something that we abandoned, only for a foreigner to “discover”? Correct me, but I think it may have been abandoned for a few hundred of years. That mean so many generations probably never known of Angkor, but so many today that had nothing to do with it and aren’t doing anything with their lives are living off the pride of Angkor.

I3ig,

something gotta give. one can’t have everything, you know. now, it looks like Mr.

Magyar staking that claim. now, when some one is making that claim, would we still cling to pride?

would these people who choose to make an epic film on some culture really intentionally want to spit on that culture or learn about that culture for understanding and for respect? humility goes a long way. let us remember that.

that is your individual right. there is no shame in this. but, Khmer, i believe, do care. it is just that we as a whole understand things differently and hence, do things differently. hence, we tend to not get things done as we tend to bicker among ourselves since we lack unity of mind and understanding of things.

i will end my conversation with you by saying that if we depend on Khmer alone to do things, it cannot be done. why? it is because Khmer lack the merits to do anything. why? it is because Khmer lack the intelligence to acquire those merits. why? it is because in the face of enlightenment, they still scoff. why? it is because they lack humility.

Na, they’ll just dubb it and everything will look Thai. They’re smart enough to flood the internet with their dubbed versions and english subtitles. Everybody else won’t care. It’ll be called “The Great Thai Empire”. Then we’ll spend thousands of years debating that it’s Khmer and not Thai…just as we do with Muay Thai. We’ll probably be unsuccessful, as we are unsuccessful in convincing everybody else to properly pronounce KhMAI.

I think this can be prevented if they keep “The Great Khmer Empire” title. However, I believe they will change it to make it more simple for Americans…and rename it to “Great Empire” or simply “Empire”. Americans will be confused with “Khmer” and “Cambodia”….and may confuse it with Thai. Thai is a more simple and familiar word.

like i said, it depends on what we cling to as a source. one source says this name and another another name, but certain things/events appear to coincide with each other. anyway, i have no source to back what i’m saying. i’m just saying. i would agree with you that Princess Soma was the Naga Princess. here, i’m just stressing that one should keep an open mind to things and not really cling to things much.

i will reserve further judgment upon my own exposure to the links you or others posted, but based on your questions below of Princess Soma, i don’t know. i assume Jolie will play JayaVaraman’s wife. but, if she is his wife and her name is Princess Soma, then it appears there is a discrepancy in the script, wouldn’t it? as for her Princess Soma’s sister, i have no idea. i assume, they are exercising their poetic license of sort with filming. if this movie is to have credit, then it is vital for a historian on the subject to have a say in the production, wouldn’t you think?

So A. Jolie will be playing princess soma the first Khmer queen
and John Cena will be playing King Jayavarmen. So i guess the movies will be in 2 different time period.

“The story will feature about Great Khmer Empire, with expecting that John Sina will do as great Khmer King, Javavarman VII who built Angkor temple in Angkor period. Hollywood Jolie will do as Soma; first Khmer queen ruled the country.”

^Indradevi was Princess Soma’s sister.
Jayavaraman married Indradevi after his wife passed away.

If Angelina plays Princess Soma, most likely the story takes place anytime up to her death.
or maybe it will end before she died.

.

But i highly doubt this movie is going to continue to Princess Indradevi’s time after Princess’ Soma’s death (no more Agelina?). It’d be too long.

.
Unless however, it’s a very long movie and there’s another big actress playing Indradevi.
or there’s a part 2.

.

anyway, just a thought :D

i’m not sure about Princeess Soma as Naga Princess, though another version has a Naga Princess as the Original Queen of Cambodia.

Yes IndraDevi is Jayavaramen wife, So who is Princess Soma? that’s the role Angelina Jolie is playing. From my knowledege I thought Princes soma was the Naga princess. Korean actress Song Hye Kyo is playing as Princess Soma sister.
that’s great. i’m very intrigued of the script. this requires much imagination and not to mention one’s immersion into the history and culture of the country and people. it’ll be a magnificent undertaking. i’m so thrill that someone is deciding to do a project on the khmer empire. though i wonder if they take into consideration the magic that is steep within the culture of the country…like the people’s belief in Hinduism and its influence on the people then…very intriguing.

great info, Kadin!

once again, it’d be interesting to view the script, to see how they’re shaping the film. but, as a movie buff, if i go into the movie, i’d go for Jolie all the way..i would rather see Jolie as IndraDevi who was very intelligent and Jayavaraman VII’s confidante in matters of states among other things…i can only imagine Princess Soma as the founder of the nation and IndraDevi the one who help expand and shape it.
