Hello Everyone,
I am new to San Francisco. Just moved into town after spending most of my life in Chicago. I was wondering if there were any Khmer people in San Francisco? I’ve been wandering around the city, and stumbled across a bunch of different ethnicities, but haven’t been able to find any Cambodian people. I read that there is a large community in Oakland, but haven’t heard much about San Francisco.

Try Stockton, CA. That’s where all the Khmers are in Northern Cal.

So I’ve been in San Francisco for about 2 months, and still, no Khmer people. It probably depends on the places I hang out in. North Beach, Marina, SoMa, Mission. Not to many Cambodians in those areas. I was thinking of checking out the association in Oakland soon. As for Stockton, I’ve been there before as a kid. I don’t have a car, so was planning on heading over there any time soon.
Pailin, all Happy Donut shop in SF, Latte Express on mission and 5th, and Organic Coffee. That’s just in my area. I know more…but let save it so we can test them out together. ![]()

The Khmer I know in SF spend most of their time at home or at work. You won’t catch them out and about. You can also meet Khmer at the Temple. This weekend the temple is having a 100 days remembrance for a well known man in SF community. Here’s the info:
At Nagara Dhamma Temple (3225 Lincoln Way; tel 415-665-7566), between 33th
and 34th Ave, SF
On Saturday, June 16, 2012, at 10:00am
with offering Lunch to Monks around 11:am, and end around 12:00 noon,
and we’ll have lunch at the Temple, after 12:00 noon.
What area are you working or living at? I don’t have a car either. Let’s be bus buddy and do happy hour together. I have my clipper card ready to go.

I visited San Francisco 2 weekends ago. I don’t do a lot of traveling so I know little about the world. Here is a question to people in the know…
Is downtown San Francisco dirty/sketchy compared to other big US cities?
I’m from Seattle, and man, San Francisco has so many homeless people. In downtown Seattle, there are pockets of streets like 2nd/3rd and Pike that are dirty, but in San Francisco it seems as though most streets are 2nd and Pike. The homeless folks can be aggressive too. There was one incident where a homeless lady followed me all the way to the entrance of a restaurant. She stayed at the front entrance and stared at me the whole time as I ordered my food to go. I offered the food to her but she wanted money.
Rexa, had I known you worked at a donut shop, I would have gone to say hi.
I know what you are talking about. I also notice the increase in homeless people but there’s also lots of nice hang out spot too.
LOL!! I don’t work at a donut shop but sometime I feel like I do. If you would have drop by my work place on Thursday, I would have offer you a glass of wine or beer.
