Good way to put it :) A friend of mine got a job at the Post Office, but he only works on the weekends and “on-calls”. Sucks when you have plans to do stuff and an unexpected phone call for you to come into work intrudes that.

hm.. that sucks… since i’m a full-time college student, will it be more difficult in that sense?

well, for one of my jobs, i’m on-call…and i find it to be very convenient for my schedule. either they call me, or i call them and let them know when i can work. if they call, i can always refuse. love it! funny thing is, during the summer, i was an on-call employee working full-time hours…another bright side was that i was allowed to work doubles/overtime…cha-ching!

Sucks if you are in the military because if you miss their calls and you are told that you are specifically on stand-by you can get an article 15.

what is an ‘article 15?’ sounds scary.

being on call sucks if it’s all you have, which is what i am on. i do piece work for a printshop and it’s really slow right now, so i got sheeit to do. i’d rather work a 9-5 then be on call even though i get paid pretty well, they don’t call often enough.

Depending on the degree of the offense or cirsumstances it can be punishable. For a minor offense you can recieve “thirty days’ confinement”, but multiple misconducts can lead to being dishonorably discharged, which would look horrible on anyone’s resume. The worse someone could get is court-martialed. Article 15 is what they refer to in the Army and Air Force.

Its like a part time job. They only call you up when they need you to finish up the project when the deadline is close or when people call out sick. They will need you to fill in that other person’s spot =)
