    …and Cambodia for that matter.

Time to deal with Hun Sen based on his true colours

How long can Thailand and the Thai people tolerate Cambodian leader Hun Sen for his unpredictable but always hostile stance towards us? It has never changed, in all his years in power.

This question deserves a prompt response from the Thai government as well as our armed forces, now that we know so much about Hun Sen’s intentional encroachment on our land and sea territories.

Latest reports say that the Cambodians have moved their border markers up to 25 kilometres inside our territory in some areas. If there is no resistance, Thailand stands to lose huge patches of land in areas along the 900-kilometre joint border.

Hun Sen’s open hostility towards Thailand has long been known, and was especially evident during a Phnom Penh riot which saw the burning of the Thai Embassy and Thai businesses in the Cambodian capital. This happened when Thaksin Shinawatra was prime minister.

No punishment or retaliation was deemed necessary. No lesson was given to Hun Sen. On the contrary, the government at that time doled out a sweetheart loan to Hun Sen for his government to pay compensation to Thai businesses. Chiefly and first among the recipients were businesses owned by Thaksin’s family.

For years, Hun Sen has extracted wealth from Thailand by various means. He allows the opening of casinos along the border, mainly to lure Thai gamblers, making them a main source of revenue for himself, with meagre amounts filtering into the national coffers.

Hun Sen is a fearsome overlord who has decided on life and death for Cambodians during his reign. He is a fake nationalist who exploits us to ensure his own longevity in power. Thailand has been picked as a scapegoat and a target in his battle cry for patriotism. He works Cambodians into a frenzy over many issues related to Thailand, and he regards Thailand as a long-standing enemy. He forgets the fact that tens of thousands of Cambodians are living in Thailand as labourers and beggars, not to mention the hordes of thieves and smugglers in the border areas.

Who is to blame for this ridiculous state of affairs? Mainly the Thai government, of course, for its soft-handed approach to bilateral diplomacy just to please the big bully in Phnom Penh. Thailand has for years regarded itself as the big brother who has to put up with the brat younger brother. This has become very costly, solely at our expense.

Firstly, we are losing land and maritime territories, and proven petroleum deposits in the joint development areas. Secondly, we are losing land surrounding the ancient Preah Vihear temple overlooking Cambodia. There is no proper resistance to this, and we stand to lose forever a possible claim to the ancient ruins, which are registered as a Unesco World Heritage site due to Hun Sen’s scheming and lobbying. Thirdly, we are losing land along other the borderareas, which will enable Cambodia to claim more areas for its own benefit.

Other hostile acts are going on. By appointing Thaksin as an adviser, Hun Sen also provides refuge to key red-shirt leaders who have fled across the border, enjoying their days in casinos and resorts, away from Thai prisons. Not only are these safe havens, the red shirts are providing training for armed militias to start another terror campaign once the emergency decree has been lifted by the Thai government and the red shirts are allowed to regroup for renewed rallies.

As a token, two-faced gesture, Hun Sen has agreed to send back two small fry who are accused of masterminding a bomb blast at the Bhum Jai Thai Party headquarters in Bangkok. The big fish, sought under Thai arrest warrants, remain untouched.

Should we feign ignorance towards Hun Sen’s sabre-rattling? He is surely a snake in the grass for Thailand, always seeking to gain ground when we have problems. His sheltering of Thaksin’s band of terrorists and saboteurs deserves our forceful and meaningful retaliation. Hun Sen only understands this kind of action. If we continue to be seen as a wimp, we only stand to lose more to the bully in Phnom Penh – with the blessings of Thaksin and his cronies.

Let Hun Sen choose whether he wants friendship or hostility, and be clear about it, so that we can respond accordingly and do away with his two-faced diplomacy.

LOL..This give me a laugh,Thailand should be thanks for Cambodia country have the guy like Hun Sen be prime minister. Beside Hun Sen be a leader, probably the new prime minister, he took his armies to the war zone already. So therefor, Thailand should have their experiences of what it mean to be suffer. Don’t thirst for war,you might have one in the future, who knew after Hun SEn die.
To tell Thai people this, you guys only dislike him,but we even hate him more. LOL…

Sopon Onkara is creating propagenda to create more hatred toward Khmer. Cambodia knows that we are no match for the Thai, We would only go into war if we’re left with no diplomatic option. Khmer troops have mismatched uniform and mismatched shoes to the war zone. I don’t think Cambodia has the nerve to move the boarder markers into Thailand. As I’ve followed the border disputes, I’ve only heard the Thai arm forces setting up camps in khmer territory and never heard of khmer troops on Thai soil. Also Thai soldiers shot and killed khmer citizens and never heard of a Thai citizen being harrassed or killed by khmer troops.

Hun Sen only cares about what Hanoi has to say about him, not about what a stupid thai person like Sopon Onkara’s opinion might be. Luckily he’s not from an opposition party, or he would have been slap with a lawsuit by Hun Sen.

I believe Khmer CAN win war against Thai.
Khmer soldiers are more experienced. Who do you think are guarding the borders?
Aren’t they mainly former Khmer soldiers?

Hence, more thai soldiers were killed and hurt along the border than Khmer.(The number of casualties reported by Thai was lower than it really was)

Also, if Thai knows they can WIN the war, considering how much they want Preah Vihear and the landing surrounding it, they would have kept shooting.
Why do you think Thai is not really ATTACKING?
they tested the water and they found out how hot it was.

Hun Sen doesn’t want Cambodia to initiate war with Thailand.
He doesn’t want Khmer to be in a war unless we a need to defend Cambodia from invaders.
Beside, it’s better that we are seen as “defenders” than the “attackers”.

Like he said in his speech, Cambodia and her people had suffered so much due to war. This is also the reason he used for not sending troops to help the Americans in Afganistan.

I would like to think that our Khmer troops would prevail in an all out war with the Thai arm forces also, but the size of their military power is so much greater than our. They have bigger army and more advance weaponary. Although some of the Khmer soldiers in the front line could be “former (khmer rouge) khmer soldiers” and they do have a lot of experience in running away from invader and bigger opposition forces. If there is a bigger war break out with the Thai, the “former (khmer rouge)khmer soldiers” will definately know the geographical area and can escape the Thai assult unharm leaving the CPP’s army dead. Most of the former khmer rouge soldiers experience were not face to face battle but fighting the enemies to what is known as the gorrila warfare; hit and run, quick hard hit and run for their lives. This kind of experiences will not win over the Thai massive army.

In the past, the Thai had a few skirmishes with us and eventhouh their side might have sustained more injuries and lost of lives, they are not deterred to continue their contest over Preah Vihea and the surrounding land. Their troops continue to set up camps inside our territory, but we are not doing much to drive them out.

Hun Sen doesn’t want to get into war with any neighboring countries, he knows we will NOT win. And if Cambodia loses to any neighboring country, what will happen to his regime? He might also lose his power? Does Hun Sen care more about Cambodia and her people future than his own power and control?

I praised Hun Sen for not sending our troops to Afganistan. I give Hun Sen a little more credit when it comes to protecting the western boarder, but I’m very disspointed in him when it comes to our eastern boarder and island particularly Koss Tral; It is a beautiful island that had just been recently lost to the Vietnam. I can see the island from Kep when I was in cambodia, It is sooooo close to Cambodia yet it is now belong to Vietnam :(

Your view is totally different from mine.

I have my faith in Khmer troops.
If the current Khmer PM was someone other than Hun Sen, I would have my doubts. He had sent the message across to Thailand loud and clear.

They know not to mess with him or Cambodia.

Also,Cambodia is not the only country that have problem with Thailand.
Thailand is not fond by countries that share borders with them.

Last year Thailand attacked Laos and they failed miserably.

They won;t have a chance with Cambodia.

Don’t bring the past. after 1975, Cambodia went to hell and back. Khmer today is different from Khmer in the past.

Also, Hun Sen doesn’t want to help in Afganistan because he doesn’t like the US. It was the US that betrayed the Cambodian government. Our country remained “neutral” until Nixon secretly bomb us and weakened our government and military unit.

Hun Sen is the man who hold grudges.
He doesn’t like the US or Thailand (they housed the KR leaders, the current thai government called him a gangster, and now they want to invade.)
