my choice is the original bigger one, y?
-overall design is much cooler looking
    -higher quality blu ray player
-touch sensitive power/ej rather than cheap buttons of the slim model
    -backward capablities
-sleek shiny of the modern era

    FAT VERSION

    slim version

    so whats your overall oppinion?

I really really want the original fat shiny PS3. But I can barely afford anything so a PS3 slim it shall be.

I thin the slim is kind of ugly and wouldn’t really flow well with the rest of my components. I wouldn’t really care which one I had though. I would just buy whichever one is cheaper since they both do the same thing. Aside from being a few seconds faster in loading games or blu ray, that doesn’t bother me and wouldn’t sway my choice on which one to own.

I choose the slim because it has bigger harddrive and consumes less power. I dont really care for backwards compatibility since I already own a PS2.(which is gathering dust)

No need to swap. any serial ATA drive will do.

price wise, going for the slim ps3. i didn’t buy the first ps3 because it’s bulky ugly, and oh so noisy. i wished they’d changed that controller but they kept it the same, so un orginal. imagine if nintendo kept with the first controller, ouchie for ur thumbs.

i have both ps3 and 360 and definilty 360 is ALOTTTT louder. And the reason Sony kept its original controllers is because of consumer choice.

thanks JackTsang05. i did not know that. i guess if u blast the sound u wouldn’t even hear that annoying sound.
but why is the default color in game consoles black, and if it’s not they come out later right after u purchase it with other color choice. i like white or pretty colors (girly) hehee. i can see why they stuck with the original controller that one is ugly. i hope some price dropped near the holidays. =D

I recently got the PS3 slim because my PS3 fatty YLOD on me, too much MW2 and I actually leave my PS3 on 24/7 streaming movies. There seems to be a PS3 shortage going on right, had to go to three different Costco to get one, couldn’t find it at target or best buy.

Personally, I prefer the fatty, it feels and looks more expensive.

I don’t know which one I have. I bought in on Christmas Eve as a last minute gift for the family.

It doesn’t seem fat to me, but it doesn’t seem slim either….

lol funny. The slim is a better design, imo

because it takes out the inefficiency of the old design. I think the main problem of the old fatty model is the power supply. It looks like it is a PC power supply & gets really hot, which creates more heat in the system. The GPU and CPU already create enough heat by themselves. And not only that, the environmentally friendly solder used melts too easily, and all of that causes the fatty PS3 to overheat and then die (YLOD).

Also the vents on the fatty PS3 was not designed right, because it had a side vent and if you put your PS3 in a stand where usually the sides are blocked, the heat dissipated will just go back into the system. But the fatty does most of its heat dissipation through the rear though. Also, it seems like the heat sink in it needs better contact/conduction/heat transfer, they should use copper plate instead of aluminum plate although the aluminum fins & heat sink are ok, but the fin can be designed for better heat dissipation. I guess it’s all about cost that time since the fatty ps3 was already expensive to make & sell w/o then.

But the PS3 does have a better record than the Xbox 360 in that it didn’t overheat & die as much. Xbox 360 has a 54.2 percent failure rate, compared to 10.6 percent for the PS3 and the Wii’s 6.8 percent. (from:http://consumerist.com/2009/08/xbox-360-failure-rate-is-542-percent-game-informer-finds.html)

Sony is releasing a firmware (3.42) to block the exploit, just like the PSP.

no point of exploiting it anyways…even if its possibility could lead to be able downlaod blu ray games the space it will take up is too much. And imaging downloading the gamess….boy that take forever.

Bootleggers dont care how long it’ll take to dl games. They would just have to dl it once or somehow duplicate from copies of the game.

so best thing to do is just copy from bluray to bluray. Copying to HD wouldnt be any good since it would take up way to much space and probably only put so many games on a 1T Drive
