Hi there,
Was wondering if anyone of you here ever considering a career (or just a few year works or even intership) in Cambodia (in private sector)?
Someone should start a topic or forum for people to place ads if he/she wants to do work in Cambodia etc…
something similar to:

But just on a site like this one…focus on oversea Khmer….cheers

I want tto teach for volunteer as well but im a lil scare of Hun Sen kiss my noses. hehehhe
Yeah sure you want to do everything and it seems you’re always studying everything. Why don’t you quit lying. You don’t even have the professional qualification to teach because if you did you’d do it without thinking what Hun Sen would say to you.

Yeah I would like to work and volunteer at the same time while I’m there. My plan is to learn tailoring and spa treatment there.
Good professional private sector job in Cambodia is hard to come by and harder to secure. The economy simply doesn’t create anywhere new the number of opportunity in America, not even in hard hit region. If you got a winning business model and the money to start your own business, then it make sense. Otherwise, you’re better off in America or Canada.
You don’t need a professional qualification to teach english as a volunteer in Cambodia, you only need to do a TOEFL, as far as I know.

I would love to work in Cambodia one day. I can see myself as a lecturer at a University or a research institution.

I’d like to do that too. But I’m not Khmer and I don’t want to take away jobs from local people.

Snabela,
i believe that there have many subjects for teaching, you dont need to be a Cambodian, thats ok too. I suggest that you can volunteer teaching Maths or something else…
I, myself is like to volunteer teaching them EnglishLanguage. I used to be a Volunteer teaching in ThaiLand camp for 3 years. i had more than 100 students in my class…Actually its not one class for 100 students, I had 3 classes…I teaching them english translated to Vietnamese, and Khmer…
I had the certificated from the Principle who nominated to me as a volunteer teaching.

I thought about that, but volunteering would be a bad idea for my carreer-path at the moment. I need to work in my field of engineering for a few years, before I could take a brak from it, and do something like that.
Also if I do that, it would be better to do something like water treatment projects instead of teaching. Because it would be more related to my actual work.

Bela if you’re interested in one of these positions and they come open, I’d recommend you apply. Chances are if people are qualified, they’ll put their name in the hat as well. You shouldn’t have that mentality when applying for work, especially doing teaching at a uni level.
One of the areas Cambodia needs to develop quickly is higher learning, and having qualified teachers is essential to building the nation. There are so many junk diplomas in Cambodia from these schools that just are there to take the kids money.
Should never be scared to take a job on account it ‘may’ take it away from a local.

I’ve thought it all through. The problem is, I just finished university (after just working for a while after highschool, then I studied something else, then I finally realized what I wanted to do). So right now, what I need is work experience. And it’s easiest to start in Germany.
In a couple of years I will asses the whole situation again, as in how my circumstances of life might have changed, how much I like my job, what my chances are…
But we canot go to work as volunteer in Cambodia anymore because a cambodia run by the communist Regime system. and its very dangerous…I dont think our worked who wanted to work as Volunteer in Cambodia not exist. the program of volunteers are cancelled…
Snabela,
If you though so!!! when will you be there for volunteer then…??
