Cambodian physician, actor and memoirist whose autobiography recounts his survival of the Khmer Rouge period.
Haing S. Ngor was a Cambodian physician, actor and activist who worked as an obstetrician and gynaecologist in Phnom Penh, then as a doctor in refugee camps in Thailand, before settling in Los Angeles in 1980. He portrayed Dith Pran in the 1984 film The Killing Fields, for which he received an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. His autobiography, written with Roger Warner and first published in 1987 as A Cambodian Odyssey, was later republished as Survival in the Killing Fields. He died in Los Angeles on February 25, 1996.
