KhmerConnection:Terms of Service

From KhmerConnection

Last updated: September 16, 2026

Welcome to KhmerConnection. These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the wiki at khmerconnection.com and any related services. By using KhmerConnection, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the wiki.

These terms should be read alongside the wiki's Copyright policy, Privacy policy, and General disclaimer.

1. About the wiki

KhmerConnection is a community-maintained, volunteer-run wiki that catalogs organizations, cultural businesses, and scholarship programs serving Khmer people, Khmer language, and Khmer cultural continuity in the Cambodian diaspora and in aid to Cambodia.

The wiki is operated by volunteer stewards and is not affiliated with any government, business, or organization listed in the directory.

2. Who can use the wiki

Reading. Anyone may read the wiki without creating an account.

Contributing. Anyone may create an account and contribute, subject to the account rules and contribution rules below.

Age requirement. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, please review these terms with a parent or guardian.

3. Account rules

Real names. Contributors are required to register with their real first and last name. Pseudonymous, anonymous, mononymous, and obviously fake accounts are not permitted. Accounts that appear to violate this rule may be renamed or blocked.

One person per account. Each account represents one individual. Do not share your account with anyone else. Do not operate multiple accounts, except in limited cases (for example, a testing account clearly linked to your primary account) approved by an administrator.

Account security. You are responsible for the activity on your account. Choose a strong password and do not share it. Notify an administrator promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

Account termination by you. You may request account deletion at any time through the privacy contact form. Public contributions remain in the page history under your former username to preserve attribution required by the CC BY-SA license. In most cases the username can be renamed or suppressed on request.

Account termination by the wiki. Administrators may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, including for the reasons described in Section 7.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use KhmerConnection to:

  • Post content you know or should reasonably know is false, misleading, or defamatory
  • Post content that infringes another person's copyright, trademark, publicity rights, or other legal rights
  • Post threats, harassment, hate speech, personal attacks, or content targeting individuals or groups based on protected characteristics
  • Harass wiki users or subjects of directory listings off-wiki (through email, social media, or other channels); off-wiki harassment may result in the same enforcement actions as on-wiki violations
  • Publish another person's private information (home address, personal phone number, personal email, government ID, or similar) without their consent
  • Impersonate another person, organization, or entity
  • Post spam, promotional content, or affiliate links unrelated to Khmer-serving directory entries
  • Deface, vandalize, or intentionally introduce errors into wiki content
  • Attempt to access administrative controls or other users' accounts without authorization
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, or interfere with the wiki's operation, including through automated scraping outside of standard robot-friendly practices
  • Use the wiki to violate any applicable law

5. Contribution rules

What belongs on the wiki. Only organizations, cultural businesses, and scholarship programs within the wiki's scope described in KhmerConnection:Scope may be added. Content unrelated to the wiki's directory purpose may be removed by administrators.

Accuracy. Do your best to add accurate, current information. Cite sources when possible. If you are uncertain about a fact, mark it clearly or leave it out.

Neutral point of view. Directory entries should be descriptive, not promotional. Do not write about your own organization, business, or program in a way that reads like marketing copy. Editors who have a conflict of interest (for example, working at or founding a listed organization) are encouraged to disclose the connection on the page's discussion page.

AI-generated content disclosure. If a substantial portion of your contribution was generated or drafted by an AI tool, disclose this on the page's discussion page. AI-generated content must still meet the wiki's accuracy, licensing, and neutral-point-of-view standards, and you remain responsible for verifying that it is factually correct and does not infringe another party's copyright.

Licensing. By contributing, you agree that your contributions are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. You retain copyright but cannot revoke the license for copies already contributed. See KhmerConnection:Copyrights for the full policy.

Attribution. Because contributions are made under your real name, they are permanently and publicly linked to your identity in the page history. See Privacy policy for details.

6. Content ownership and license grants

Your content. You keep copyright ownership of the text and files you contribute. By contributing, you grant the public a perpetual, irrevocable license to use your contributions under CC BY-SA 4.0.

Wiki content. Text on the wiki is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 unless otherwise noted. See KhmerConnection:Copyrights for the full attribution rules and non-free content policy.

KhmerConnection name and logo. The name "KhmerConnection" and any logos or design elements used to identify the wiki are the property of the wiki's operators. You may reference the wiki by name and link to it, but do not use the name or logo in a way that suggests endorsement of an outside project or product without permission.

7. Enforcement

Administrators may take one or more of the following actions if a user violates these terms:

  • Remove, revert, or hide the offending content
  • Issue a warning
  • Restrict specific editing privileges
  • Suspend the account temporarily
  • Block the account permanently
  • Remove multiple contributions by a user with a history of policy violations
  • Report the matter to law enforcement if a legal violation is suspected

Repeated or severe violations may lead to a permanent block without prior warning. Administrators are volunteers acting in the community's interest and do not owe procedural steps beyond what these terms and applicable law require.

8. Third-party content and links

The wiki contains links to third-party websites, social media accounts, and other online resources. KhmerConnection does not control these third parties and is not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, privacy practices, or terms. Follow external links at your own risk and review the third party's terms and privacy policy before providing information.

Directory listings reflect what contributors have found in public sources at the time of writing. A listing is not an endorsement, certification, or verification of the listed organization or business.

9. Disclaimers

The wiki is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or availability. See General disclaimer for details.

Because the wiki is community-maintained, content may be added, changed, or removed at any time. The wiki does not guarantee that any particular content will remain available or unchanged.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, KhmerConnection, its administrators, and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising out of or related to your use of the wiki, even if the wiki has been advised of the possibility of such damages. This includes damages resulting from:

  • Reliance on directory content
  • Interactions with any organization or business listed on the wiki
  • Loss of data, revenue, or business
  • Errors, omissions, or delays in content
  • Third-party sites or services linked from the wiki
  • Interruptions to or unavailability of the wiki

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, this section applies to the maximum extent permitted.

11. Dispute resolution

Informal resolution first. If you have a dispute with KhmerConnection or another user about wiki content, an account action, or these terms, please attempt to resolve it informally before pursuing formal remedies:

  • For disputes about wiki content, discuss the issue on the relevant page's discussion page
  • For disputes about administrator actions, discuss the issue with the administrator or on KhmerConnection:Community
  • For any dispute you cannot resolve on the wiki, submit a request through the contact form describing the dispute and desired outcome

Good-faith mediation. If informal resolution does not settle the matter, the wiki's administrators will make a good-faith effort to mediate for up to 60 days after receiving your written notice through the contact form.

Governing law and venue. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, these terms and any claim arising from or related to your use of the wiki are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any legal action must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

12. Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the wiki grows or as applicable law evolves. The current version is always available at KhmerConnection:Terms of Service, and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

Material changes will be announced on KhmerConnection:Community at least 30 days before they take effect. Where applicable law requires prior notice or consent for a material change, that requirement will be observed before the change takes effect.

Your continued use of the wiki after material changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree to a change, you may stop using the wiki and request account deletion through the contact form.

13. General

Severability. If any provision of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.

No waiver. Failure by the wiki to enforce any right or provision of these terms does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.

Assignment. You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these terms without the wiki's prior written consent. The wiki may assign these terms to a successor entity in connection with a change in stewardship.

Entire agreement. These terms, together with the Copyright policy, Privacy policy, and General disclaimer, constitute the entire agreement between you and KhmerConnection regarding your use of the wiki.

14. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent through the contact form.
