KhmerConnection:How to Contribute
Welcome
KhmerConnection is a wiki. Anyone can read it. Registered users can edit it. There are no dues, no application, no lengthy approval process. If you know a Khmer-serving organization that is not here, or you can improve one that is, please add or update it.
To edit, you need a free account. This friction blocks 99% of automated spam without meaningfully slowing down real contributors. Create one via the "Log in" link at the top of any page.
Before you edit
Read three pages, in this order:
- KhmerConnection:Scope — the one-page definition of what belongs on the wiki.
- This page.
- Template:Organization — the fields every organization page must include.
Total reading time: less than ten minutes.
Adding a new organization
Step 1 — check for duplicates. Search the wiki for the organization name and common variants (English, Khmer script, transliteration, abbreviations). If you find a page, edit that instead.
Step 2 — create the page. Name it using the organization's most common English name. Examples: Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association of Greater Lowell, Wat Munisotaram, Cambodian American Girls Empowering (CAGE).
Step 3 — paste the template. Copy the full infobox from Template:Organization into your new page. Fill in what you know. It is fine to leave fields blank if you do not know them — mark the page unverified and someone else may complete them.
Step 4 — cite one source, minimum. Every organization page must cite at least one source. Acceptable sources: the organization's own website, a tax filing (IRS 990 or equivalent), a government listing, a news article, or a reference in an established directory.
Step 5 — save. That is all.
Improving an existing organization
Especially valuable contributions:
- Verifying and dating. Change status from
unverifiedtoactive, dormant, orhistorical. Update thelast_verifiedfield. - Adding Khmer script names and correcting transliterations.
- Adding public contact information — office phone numbers, general email addresses, physical addresses. Do not add personal cell numbers or personal emails without written consent.
- Adding links to programs, publications, and events.
- Adding photos you own or that are Creative Commons licensed. Do not upload copyrighted photos.
- Fixing broken links. If a website is dead, mark the page
dormantand note the last date the site was live.
What NOT to add
- Personal contact information for individuals without their written consent.
- Rumors, unsourced allegations, or negative claims that cannot be cited.
- Marketing copy from the organization. Describe what the organization does in neutral language.
- Political endorsements or opposition.
- Fundraising links on any page except the organization's own page, and only if the organization publicly solicits donations.
When you and another editor disagree
- Use the talk page for that organization, not the page itself, to discuss.
- Cite a source. "I know for a fact" is not a source.
- If you cannot resolve it on the talk page, contact a steward.
Vandalism and spam
Every edit is revertible. If you see obvious spam or vandalism, use the wiki's built-in revert function and note "revert vandalism" in the edit summary. If it keeps happening, contact a steward.
