KhmerConnection:Copyrights
Last updated: September 16, 2026
KhmerConnection is a community-maintained wiki. This page explains the license that covers content on the wiki, the rights and responsibilities of contributors, how to reuse the wiki's content, and how to report a copyright concern.
This page is a policy interpretation, not a legal document. The CC BY-SA 4.0 license text and applicable law govern in case of any conflict.
Content license
Unless otherwise noted, text on KhmerConnection is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). Anyone may copy, modify, and redistribute the text if they:
- Provide attribution to the wiki and its contributors
- Indicate if changes were made
- License any modifications under CC BY-SA 4.0 or a later compatible version
- Include the license text or a link to it in the redistributed copy
This is often called "copyleft" or "ShareAlike."
Some pages may include material licensed only under CC BY-SA 4.0 or a CC BY-SA-compatible license. Such material is identified on the page or its discussion page.
Content is also covered by the wiki's general disclaimer.
Contributor grant of license
By contributing text directly to KhmerConnection, you grant the public permission to reuse it under CC BY-SA 4.0. You keep copyright ownership of what you write; copyright is never transferred to the wiki.
You may later republish or relicense your own contributions elsewhere. You cannot, however, retract or change the license for copies already made available on the wiki. Those copies remain under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Do not add text or media created by someone else unless one of the following is true:
- The material is in the public domain
- The material is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 or another license compatible with CC BY-SA 4.0
- You have written permission from the copyright holder, verified through a permission process
- You are quoting a brief excerpt with attribution under a legal exception such as fair use
Wiki text imported from another source must be documented on the page or its discussion page, including a link to the original and a note about the source license.
Media, images, and quotations
Prefer freely licensed or public-domain images, video, and sound files. Every media file uploaded to the wiki must have a description identifying:
- The source of the file
- The license or copyright status
- If non-free, the reason it is being used and why a free equivalent is not available
Non-free images and short quotations may be used only when:
- No free equivalent is available or could reasonably be created
- The use is minimal in extent (low resolution for images; short quotation for text)
- The material is directly relevant to the page it appears on
- Quotations are marked with quotation marks or a block quote
Reuse of non-free material outside KhmerConnection is not automatically covered by CC BY-SA 4.0. Reusers must independently justify any use under the law of the country where the material is reused.
Do not upload material that infringes any person's copyright.
Attribution when reusing wiki content
To reuse text from KhmerConnection, credit the authors using one of the following:
- A link or URL back to the wiki page or pages you copied from, so readers can see the page history
- A link or URL to another stable, freely accessible copy that credits the authors equivalently
- A visible list of the primary authors of the material you reused
Every distributed copy or modified version must:
- State that the work is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0
- Include a link to https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ or a copy of the license text
- Indicate if changes were made from the original wiki version
When reusing text within the wiki (moving or merging content between pages), leave a link to the source page in the destination page's edit summary so contribution history is preserved.
Reporting a copyright concern
If you believe material on this wiki infringes your copyright, or the copyright of another person, you have several options.
Community discussion. For most concerns, raise the issue on the discussion page of the wiki page in question. Include:
- The exact page URL
- Identification of the specific material at issue
- An explanation of why you believe it infringes copyright
- Evidence supporting your claim (e.g., a link to the original source, publication date, ownership)
The community will review and, if the concern is valid, remove the material. If a page contains only infringing material, the entire page may be removed.
Formal removal request. If you are the copyright owner and want the material removed immediately, submit a request through the wiki's copyright contact form. Provide the same details listed above.
Contributor responsibility. Contributors who repeatedly add copyrighted material after being warned may lose editing privileges. In serious cases, an administrator may remove all recent contributions by a user with an established history of copyright violations.
False alarms
Sometimes material found elsewhere on the web was originally copied from this wiki, not the other way around. If you suspect a backward copy, note it on the page's discussion page rather than removing the material. Contributors and administrators can check the page history to determine which version came first.
Content used under permission
If you have obtained explicit written permission from a copyright holder to use their material on the wiki under CC BY-SA 4.0 or a compatible license, note the permission on the page's discussion page, including:
- The name and contact of the person granting permission
- The date permission was granted
- A copy or link to the permission (an email, letter, or online notice)
The community may request additional verification if the permission is unclear.
Questions
For questions about copyright, licensing, or how to handle material of uncertain status, ask on KhmerConnection:Community or submit a message through the copyright contact form.
