Description
A Proper Woman is the true story of a young Cambodian woman who challenged her country's social and cultural norms. Growing up on an island south of Phnom Penh, surrounded by traditional customs in which women were expected to marry young, bear children and work the family farm, the author was encouraged by parents whose own childhoods were shaped by the Khmer Rouge years to treat education as a way to forge an independent future.
