Cambodian Community Development, Inc. (CCDI) is a nonprofit dedicated to serving the needs of the Cambodian community in the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 1997 and granted federal tax-exempt status in July 2001, the organization has provided language interpretation, cultural and linguistic education, and legal and medical assistance to Cambodian Americans in the region. Programs and services
CCDI's cultural program "Please Don't Stop the Music" offered traditional Cambodian music classes for youth and middle-school teens, taught by the 91-year-old local master artist Nhep Prok, described as the primary teacher of almost every Cambodian musician in Oakland. CCDI takes part in the Southeast Asian Mental Health Initiative, one of the community initiatives in the Asian and Pacific Islander Mental Health Collaborative led with RAMS, with funding from the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Its outreach encourages families to seek help for stress, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress, with staff who speak Cambodian, Lao and Mongolian.
