Wat
Chùa Bãi Ớt
Chùa Bãi Ớt is a Khmer Theravada Buddhist Wat near the sea at Kiên Lương, An Giang province, Vietnam, founded in 1884.[1]
History
The Wat was founded in 1884. Its first main hall was a simple structure of wood and leaves. In 1986, under Hòa thượng (Most Venerable) Trần Phương, a sturdier main hall was begun; it was completed in 1991. After more than 30 years of salt air, damp, strong winds and storms, its walls, roof and frame had badly deteriorated.[1]
Religious life
On May 16, 2025, the monks and lay followers broke ground for a new main hall. Hòa thượng Danh Đổng and Hòa thượng Danh Lân of the provincial Sangha led the ceremony, which provincial officials attended; Thượng tọa (Venerable) Danh Cường, chair of the Patriotic Monks' Solidarity Association for Kiên Lương, Hà Tiên and Giang Thành, reported on the Wat's history.[1]
