Wat

Chùa Buppharam (Chùa Cái Giá Chót) is a Khmer Theravada Buddhist Wat in Hưng Hội commune, Cà Mau province, Vietnam, near Bạc Liêu.[1][2]

History

The Wat stands about 6 km (3.7 mi) northeast of the center of Bạc Liêu. Its tradition dates its founding to 1573, by Venerable Kim Bupha. Its first site was Phum Pro-âu-krom, in today's Nước Mặn hamlet, on 18,144 m2 (4.5 acres) given by a lay couple, Sao and Xem. On January 25, 2023, the Wat marked its 450th anniversary and dedicated its new main hall and monks' quarters.[1]

Religious life

As of 2025 and 2026, the abbot was Hòa thượng (Most Venerable) Tăng Sa Vong, vice head of the provincial board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.[2][3] On November 2 and 3, 2025, the Wat held its Kathina robe offering, sponsored by families from the Khmer villages of Sóc Đồn, Cái Giá and Đây Tà Ni; lay followers carried the robes three times around the main hall before offering them to the monks.[2] On April 11, 2026, the chair of the provincial Fatherland Front brought Khmer New Year (Chol Chnam Thmey) gifts to the monks and the Wat committee.[4] For Khmer New Year 2026, lay followers also offered food to the monks in the Wat's sala.[5] On July 26, 2026, ten novices received full ordination as monks at the Wat, before an assembly of 26 senior monks.[3]
