Wat

Chùa Cái Cối (Wat Teakhinasakor Ta Lôn) is a Khmer Theravada Buddhist Wat in Cái Cối hamlet, Long Vĩnh commune, Vĩnh Long province, Vietnam.[1] Built in 1816, it was formerly in Trà Vinh province.[1]

History

The Wat was heavily damaged by bombing during the wars, and its monks and lay followers repaired it many times while keeping its Khmer architecture. During the resistance it served as a secret base that sheltered revolutionary cadres.[1]

On April 18, 2013, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the Wat as a national historical relic (Decision 1457/QĐ-BVHTTDL), and the recognition was presented at the Wat on June 12, 2013. It was the 12th national relic in Trà Vinh province.[1]

Religious life

The Wat is the center of religious and cultural life for the Khmer community of the area.[1] In April 2025, officers of the provincial Border Guard visited it for Khmer New Year (Chol Chnam Thmey), greeting its monks, its management board and its lay followers.[2]

On April 9, 2026, a deputy chair of the provincial people's committee visited the Wat, there called Chùa Ta Lôn, for Khmer New Year.[3]
