Wat
Chùa Cò
Chùa Cò ("Stork Wat") is a Khmer Theravada Buddhist Wat in Đại An commune, in what was Trà Cú district of Trà Vinh province, now Vĩnh Long province, Vietnam.[1] Its Khmer name is Nodol[1] or Phnô Đôn.[2]
History
The Wat was built in 1677 on grounds of nearly 6 ha (15 acres), ringed by bamboo and by dầu, sao and neem trees. Storks and other birds have nested there for about 100 years, protected by the monks and villagers.[1]
Religious life
As of 2025, the head monk was Hòa thượng (Most Venerable) Pháp Tánh. The Wat's gardens shelter many kinds of storks, herons, cormorants and other birds, among them the Oriental darter, a rare species listed in the Red Book. The birds are wary of strangers but stay close to the monks.[1]
