Wat

Chùa Ngã Năm Bình Minh is a Khmer Theravada Buddhist Wat in Minh Tân A hamlet, in the U Minh Thượng area of An Giang province, Vietnam.[1]

History

Until the 2025 provincial merger the Wat stood in Minh Thuận commune, U Minh Thượng district, Kiên Giang province. Its late abbot, Venerable Danh É, began building it with local lay followers in 1990, and the grounds have since grown to 1 ha (2.5 acres). Work on a permanent main hall, replacing a temporary one, began in October 2006 under the present abbot, Đại đức (Venerable) Danh Khỏe. The hall measures 21 m by 12 m (69 by 39 ft) and rises 31 m (102 ft); it cost more than 7.8 billion đồng. A gate, a fence and monks' quarters followed, all in the Khmer Theravada style.[1]

Religious life

On January 15, 2025, after more than 17 years of building, the Wat established its sima (consecrated boundary) and inaugurated the new main hall. Senior monks of the provincial Sangha, among them Hòa thượng (Most Venerable) Danh Đổng and Hòa thượng Danh Lung, led the ceremony with lay followers and provincial and district officials.[1]
