Wat

Chùa Rạch Sỏi is a Khmer Theravada Buddhist Wat in Rạch Giá ward, An Giang province, Vietnam.[1]

History

Before the 2025 reorganization the Wat stood in Rạch Sỏi ward of the city of Rạch Giá, Kiên Giang province. Its former abbot, Hòa thượng (Most Venerable) Danh Dĩnh, was vice head of the Kiên Giang provincial board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and principal of the province's school of Pali, scripture and monastic discipline. His stupa stands at the Wat.[2]

Religious life

Each year on the fourth and fifth days of the lunar New Year, his disciples and lay followers gather at the Wat to remember Danh Dĩnh. On February 2, 2025, the 13th memorial was held with a mass alms offering to nearly 1,000 monks; the monks and lay followers carried his portrait three times around his stupa.[2] In October 2025 the Wat held its Kathina robe offering.[3] On March 21, 2026, it inaugurated a shared stupa for the remains of lay followers and a Buddha image in the pose of turning the wheel of the teaching, built with gifts from monks, the Wat committee and lay followers. Senior monks of the provincial Sangha attended, and Đại đức (Venerable) Danh Sóc Khênh reported on the building work.[1]
