Wat

Chùa Somroông (Chùa Cây Trôm) is a Khmer Theravada Buddhist Wat in Cây Trôm hamlet, Giồng Riềng commune, An Giang province, Vietnam, founded in 1931.[1]

History

The Wat was founded in 1931 and went through hard years in the wars, with many restorations. Hòa thượng (Most Venerable) Danh Dổ has been its abbot since 1989. Under him much was built, and from 2018 the gate, the fence, the sala (meeting hall) and the kitchen were completed for more than 6.6 billion đồng, given by monks, lay followers and donors.[1]

Religious life

In October 2025 the Wat held its Kathina robe offering.[2] On June 13, 2026, it inaugurated a new preaching hall in the Khmer Theravada style. Senior monks of the provincial Sangha, among them Hòa thượng Danh Đổng and Thượng tọa (Venerable) Danh Phản, attended with provincial officials and lay followers, and Đại đức (Venerable) Danh Tỷ reported on the Wat's history and building work.[1]
