Historical figure
Christine Phung
Christine Phung is a French fashion designer of Cambodian descent.[1][2][3] In 2013 she won the first-collections prize of ANDAM, a French fashion award.[3] From 2016 to 2020 she was creative director of the Paris fashion house Leonard.[1]
Training and early career
Phung grew up in France.[3] She trained at two Paris fashion schools, the École Duperré and the Institut Français de la Mode.[1] She then worked for labels including Christophe Lemaire, Chloé, Vanessa Bruno, Lacoste and Baby Dior.[3] ANDAM wrote that, thanks to her dual culture, she has "a strong appreciation of printed fabrics and materials".[3]
In 2008 she showed her designs at the Biennale du Design of the Musée d'Art Moderne in Liège. In 2011 she won the Grand Prix of design of the City of Paris, and in 2012 she was a finalist for the Mango Fashion Awards.[3] She launched her own label in 2011.[1]
ANDAM prize
ANDAM gave her its prize in the first-collections category in 2013.[3] ANDAM describes her collections as moving between structured and fluid lines.[3]
Leonard
Leonard was founded in 1958 by Daniel Tribouillard and is known for its floral prints. Agence France-Presse wrote in 2016 that the house had had a series of designers before her, and that Phung would make her debut at the house on October 3 during Paris Fashion Week.[2]
FashionUnited wrote that her spring and summer 2017 show gave Leonard's floral prints a more casual feel, putting bomber jackets and parkas beside the long pleated print dresses the house was known for. Phung told the magazine that she wanted clothes for a younger and more contemporary wardrobe, and that she had reworked the house's flower patterns digitally into a modern jungle. She also hoped to open the house's first online shop.[4]
Her autumn and winter 2017 to 2018 collection for Leonard was shown at Paris Fashion Week in March 2017. Leonard's description of the collection, published by Design Scene, has a young woman exploring a marble quarry in Carrara, Italy, with the house's flowers running through it.[5] Her professional profile gives her time at Leonard as March 2016 to October 2020. In 2020 she became image artistic director for a lingerie and swimwear brand.[1]
