Overview

Exceed Worldwide is a United Kingdom–registered international charity founded in November 1989 as The Cambodia Trust by peace negotiator Stan Windass, former diplomat John Pedler, and historian Peter Carey, in response to a request from the Cambodian government to help landmine amputees and other victims of the country's long conflict. The charity established its first service at Calmette Hospital in Phnom Penh, providing prostheses to conflict survivors, and launched its first full rehabilitation service in 1992.

In 1994 The Cambodia Trust established the Cambodian School of Prosthetics and Orthotics (CSPO) in Phnom Penh, the country's first specialist training school for prosthetist-orthotists, in order to build a sustainable local workforce rather than rely permanently on foreign specialists. CSPO went on to train generations of Cambodian and regional practitioners and today operates as the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics at the National Institute of Social Affairs.

As the organization's work expanded beyond Cambodia — with training schools and rehabilitation services opened in Laos, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Indonesia, and the Philippines — the trustees rebranded the charity as Exceed Worldwide in 2014 to reflect its regional reach. The new name and strategic plan retained the founding focus on prosthetics, orthotics, rehabilitation, and training for people with physical disabilities in low-income settings.

Exceed Worldwide is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales under charity number 1032476 (company number 02807200), with its registered office at 160 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. It continues to operate prosthetics and orthotics training schools in Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Myanmar, and rehabilitation centres in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Indonesia, providing services free of charge to those most in need.
