Angkor Database presents Hok Sokol as a Cambodian architect whose research centers on traditional timber construction.[1] Cambodge Mag names him and Darryl Collins as the authors of Cambodian Wooden Houses: 1,500 Years of Khmer Heritage.[2]

Architectural work

Cambodge Mag gives 1999 as Sokol's graduation year.[2] At the Royal University of Fine Arts, he studied in its Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning.[2] The magazine says he has held ASEAN Architect certification since 2020.[2] Angkor Database places his birthplace in Kampong Cham province and says he joined the ARK Project after graduating.[1] That project led to Building Cambodia: New Khmer Architecture 1953–1970, with Collins and Helen Grant Ross.[1] The database gives the book's year as 2002 in Collins's profile and 2006 in Sokol's profile; Cambodge Mag gives 2006.[1][2]

Both sources identify Sokol as a contributor to Wooden Architecture of Cambodia: A Disappearing Heritage. The Center for Khmer Studies published the work in 2006.[1][2] Cambodge Mag dates a house-moving project by Sokol and Collins to 2007. They took the house to Siem Reap from a Mekong River island in Kampong Cham.[2]

Wooden houses

Angkor Database's catalog dates Cambodian Wooden Houses to February 2022 and names Sipar as its publisher. Its Sokol profile also gives a Sipar date of 2021, alongside a statement that he released the book in 2022.[1] Cambodge Mag describes its coverage of the history and construction of wooden houses, illustrated with photographs, maps, plans and drawings. Cambodge Mag says it is considered the first monograph on the subject.[2]
