Wat
Khemara Uttararangsi Buddhist Temple
Khemara Uttararangsi Buddhist Temple is a Khmer Buddhist Wat in Lambells Lagoon, near Humpty Doo, south of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.[1][2]
History
Muy Keav Ma and her family founded the Wat, with support from the local Cambodian refugee community. In May 2025 the Wat celebrated its 20th anniversary.[1] Its association, the Khemara Uttararangsi Buddhist Temple of NT, has held an Australian Business Number since January 2005 and has been a registered charity since 2018.[3]
Religious life
The Wat follows the Theravada tradition and stands at the corner of Duff and Wanderrie Roads.[2] The site lies about an hour south of Darwin.[1] A tropical garden, Bodhi trees and a Buddha park with many statues surround it. As of 2026, resident and visiting monks taught in Khmer, and the Wat was a place for community gatherings and practice. Festivals such as Khmer New Year, Vesak and Kathina, at the end of the monks' three-month rains retreat, drew growing numbers of people beyond the Cambodian community.[1]
