Description
Chamreun Tan grew up mainly in Battambang City and was working as a police officer in Phnom Penh on 17 April 1975 when the Khmer Rouge came to power. He was separated from his parents and siblings and sent to the village of Phum Chhouk to work for the Khmer Rouge until 1979. He describes attempting to leave Cambodia more than once, being sent back, living in Thai refugee camps and coming to the United States in 1984. (Minnesota Historical Society record)
