Description
Samphoun Em was nineteen when the Khmer Rouge came to power. He and his family were evacuated from their village and separated, and he and two siblings were sent to work in a camp about fifty kilometres from his home village. Many people, including his sister, starved to death. After developing asthma and needing medicine he escaped to a refugee camp in Thailand and later immigrated to America.
