Description
Koan Khmer follows Samnang Sok, an orphaned child survivor of the Cambodian genocide, as he leaves Cambodia with his extended family, endures refugee camps, and begins a new life in the United States. Set primarily in Massachusetts and later Long Beach, California, the novel explores war trauma, displacement, racism, family memory, cultural identity, and the role of literature and writing in rebuilding a life and creating a home.
