Muka Theravadda is a French cultural association based in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, near Paris, dedicated to preserving and passing on the arts and traditions of the world, with particular attention to Khmer heritage and Asian cultures. It offers Khmer dance, music, Kun Khmer, yoga and talks, and runs humanitarian projects in Cambodia. History

Muka Theravadda has its roots in the Comité International Entraide Humanitaire pour la Population Khmer (C.I.E.H.P.K.), an association founded in Mulhouse in March 1988 that supported Khmer populations and promoted their culture. On December 13, 2024, Muka Theravadda became functionally autonomous while remaining under its parent association, and broadened its focus from Khmer culture alone to the arts and cultures of the world. Activities

The association teaches Khmer traditional and folk dance in weekly Saturday sessions, with extra rehearsals before performances. New students may take two free trial classes. (Muka Theravadda, Notre savoir-faire; Muka Theravadda, Section Danse Khmer)

Recurring language workshops cover Khmer, from an introduction to reading and writing through conversation and cultural vocabulary, as well as French. (Muka Theravadda, Ateliers langues)

Performances

At the 2025 Festival des Horizons, organized by the Centre Anim Poterne des Peupliers, Muka Theravadda performed the Khmer dances Boung Soung Chun Por, Tevy Probey and Bopha Lokey. It also gave a Kun Khmer Boran demonstration and presented an original choreography by Preah Neang combining Kun Khmer with contemporary dance. (Muka Theravadda, Festival des Horizons (2025))

Humanitarian projects

The Long Mech project delivers food, clothing and basic necessities to villagers in rural Cambodia and supports disadvantaged children's access to education. The Noy Noy project funds traditional costumes, musical instruments and crafts, and helps the children of artisans, dancers and musicians return to school or train for work. The association also collects donated clothing, school supplies and hygiene products for families in Cambodia and homeless people in France, and gives away, free of charge, new computer keyboards donated by the community life office of Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine.
