Overview
New Kamara Restaurant is a Chinese-Cambodian eatery at 709 N Hill Street in Los Angeles's Chinatown, serving one of only two Cambodian kitchens in the neighborhood and part of Chinatown's small but longstanding community of roughly 600 Cambodian residents, many of them ethnically Chinese Cambodians who arrived in Los Angeles in the 1980s. The menu blends Khmer and Cantonese dishes, with local guides highlighting fried leek cakes, stir-fried radish cake, house combination noodle soup with pork balls, boiled pork, ground pork, shrimp and kidney, beef lok lak over fried rice, and Chinese doughnuts that reportedly sell out by lunchtime. Regulars describe the food as very traditional Khmer.
