Description
Sara Pol-Lim was born on 21 August 1966 in Phnom Penh, and her family was forced out of their home into labour camps in the countryside when the Khmer Rouge entered the city on 17 April 1975. After the Vietnamese military arrived in 1979 she and her mother reunited with extended family and travelled to Khao-I-Dang refugee camp to contact an uncle who had been evacuated to California; they reached the United States in 1983 and settled in Gardena. She studied at El Camino College, CSU Long Beach, National University and Chapman University, joined the United Cambodian Community in Long Beach in 1998, became its first woman executive director in 2007 and earned a doctorate in educational leadership in 2018.
