It helps Cambodian nationals renew or extend passports, and it certifies legal documents such as birth certificates and marriage and divorce licenses.[1] It gives its main goal as strengthening friendship between Cambodia and the United States, and its work as promoting trade, tourism and culture between the two countries.[1]
History
Cambodia had a consulate in Long Beach before 2009. In March 2009 a spokesman for Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the Khmer service of Voice of America that the government was considering opening it again.[3] On November 9, 2015, the consulate general marked Cambodia's Independence Day in Long Beach for the first time. The event was meant to raise awareness of Khmer culture and to encourage travel to Cambodia and trade with it.[4]
