Overview
The project documents the historical ethnography of Cambodians in Long Beach, tracing how the community grew at international, national and local levels, how cultural practice was recreated in the city, and how Cambodian residents contributed to the economy, politics and redevelopment of the Anaheim Street corridor. Material reached the archive from researchers, community members and Cambodian-led and Cambodian-serving organizations, and the project's founders have carried out ethnographic and linguistic research in the community since 1988. (CamCHAP at CSU Dominguez Hills)
Material coverage
The archive holds over 2,000 photographs, nearly 1,700 English and Khmer newspapers, and further documents, unpublished manuscripts and reports. (CamCHAP at CSU Dominguez Hills)
The project website adds photographs, historical documents, audio recordings and video clips in English and Khmer, among them a short ethnographic video, A Garden Without Roots, about five Cambodian senior gardeners who maintain two community gardens in Long Beach. (CamCHAP)
