Religious life

Each year, the day after the end of Vassa, the rains retreat, the Wat holds a festival of floating lamps, attended by many monks and local people. Its rites, which include a krong peali (ក្រុងពាលី, an offering to the guardian spirit of the land), prayers and a procession of lamps that are then set afloat on the water, ask forgiveness of the forces of nature, among them the Ganges, the wind and the earth.[2]

In December 2025 the abbots and committees of several Wats in Siem Reap, among them Wat Arannh Sakor, opened their grounds to families displaced from the border area and gave them daily meals. On December 10, 2025, 147 families, or 540 people, were staying at the Wat, and Samdech Preah Brahma Rattanamony Pin Sem, president of the Thera Sabha, the council of senior monks of Cambodian Buddhism, brought them food and supplies.[1]
