Wat Hanchey
វត្តភ្នំហាន់ជ័យ
Wat Hanchey (វត្តភ្នំហាន់ជ័យ), formally វត្តជ័យគីរី, is a Buddhist Wat in Hanchey commune, Kampong Siem district, Kampong Cham province, Cambodia.[1][2]
Religious life
As of 2025, 85 monks lived at the Wat.[3] The Wat is a regular place of provincial religious ceremonies. On April 14, 2025, at Cambodian New Year, the governor of Kampong Cham led officials in a bangskol (prayers for the dead) and in heaping sand stupas, which recall the stupa that holds the Buddha's hair.[4][5] On June 17, 2025, the Kampong Cham branch of the Cambodian Red Cross held its ceremony for the 89th birthday of Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk at the Wat.[6]
At the start of Vassa, the rains retreat, in July 2025 a government delegation and then the provincial council and governor brought Vassa candles and offerings to the monks; the provincial administration did so again on August 18, 2026.[3][1][7] On September 27, 2026, the first day of kan ben (កាន់បិណ្ឌ), the days of offerings that lead up to Pchum Ben, the governor led officials in offerings of food, goods and money to the monks.[2]
