Wat
Wat Khmer Kampuchea Krom (Bay Area)
Wat Khmer Kampuchea Krom is a Khmer Buddhist Wat in the Bay Area, United States, whose sanctuary was under construction in May 2026.[1]
History
The Wat's website tells the story of building the sanctuary in a series titled A Buddhist Temple Rises in the Bay Area, made with Andrew Mann Architecture and A Khmer Buddhist Foundation.[1] Part Five describes May 9, 2026, when the community gathered for the consecration and raising of the pinnacle, which the website calls one of the most sacred milestones of the construction.[1] A crane lifted the pinnacle into place at the top of the sanctuary.[1] The website says the pinnacle marks the highest point of the building.[1]
The sanctuary's decorative wall panels each started as a clay carving made in Cambodia, and the website says the finished pieces were shipped to San Jose to be painted on site.[1]
Religious life
For the May 9, 2026 consecration, 21 monks came from Cambodia, Vietnam, Canada and around the United States, the website says.[1] The monks led the gathering in homage to the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha.[1] A ceremonial leader guided the chanting and blessings, Pinpeat musicians played throughout, and a dancer performed before the altar.[1] After the ceremony the community shared a meal, with the monks served first.[1]
The website describes the Wat as a sanctuary for the Khmer Krom community.[1]
