Wat Kok Thlok
វត្តគោកធ្លក
Wat Kok Thlok (វត្តគោកធ្លក) is a Buddhist Wat west of the Bayon in Angkor Thom, in the Angkor Archaeological Park, Cambodia.[1][2]
History
Monks and lay Buddhists began to settle at the site in 1984. The Wat has two vihara (ordination halls), one in front of the other, as well as a preaching hall and a dining hall, with small monks' quarters at the back. A Pali primary school for monks, built from 1998 to 2000, stands south of the preaching hall, and monks from nearby Wats come to study there. As of 2021, monks, nuns and boys who studied with the monks lived at the Wat.[1]
In 2026 it was one of five Wats in the first stage of a master plan for the Wats of the Angkor Archaeological Park.[3][4]
Religious life
On February 11, 2026, the APSARA National Authority held a workshop on water and the temples for 45 monks, achar (lay ritual leaders), Wat committee members and lay followers of the Angkor area in the grounds of the Wat. The provincial chief monk, Chum Kim Leng, who also chairs the Council of Monks on Angkor Pagoda Affairs, presided.[5]
On the morning of October 3, 2026, during the days of offerings before Pchum Ben, representatives of Prime Minister Hun Manet and his wife made offerings of food, money and goods to nine Wats of the Angkor area at a ceremony held at Wat Kok Thlok. The abbots and monks of the nine Wats attended, and the merit was dedicated to the ancestors of the Angkor era and to departed relatives.[6]
