Wat

Wat Phnom Pros (វត្តភ្នំប្រុស), formally វត្តសុវណ្ណគិរីរតនៈភ្នំប្រុស, is a Buddhist Wat in Krala commune, Kampong Siem district, Kampong Cham province.[1]

History

In 2002 the Documentation Center of Cambodia listed Wat Phnom Pros, in Kampong Siem district, among 77 memorials it recorded as holding the remains of victims of Khmer Rouge rule (Democratic Kampuchea, 1975 to 1979).[2] The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia name a "Wat Phnom Pros execution site" among the crime sites alleged in its Case 004/02. The court presents these as allegations rather than findings. It states that its Supreme Court Chamber ended the case on August 10, 2020, because there was no definite and enforceable indictment.[3]

Religious life

As of 2026, the abbot was Preah Dhammasilavongsa Chin Savoeun.[4] On August 9, 2026, during Vassa, the rains retreat, a government delegation led by Labour Minister Heng Sour brought Vassa candles and offerings to the 50 monks keeping the retreat at the Wat, and gifts to 140 elderly lay precept-keepers and 10 achar (lay ritual leaders).[1]

During Pchum Ben in 2026 the Wat kept the days of offerings as in other years. The abbot and the Wat committee also set up sand stupas and a shrine, and added a bangskol (prayers for the dead).[4]
