Wat Preah Indra Tep

វត្តព្រះឥន្ទទេព

Wat Preah Indra Tep (វត្តព្រះឥន្ទទេព) is a Buddhist Wat near the Bayon in Angkor Thom, in the Angkor Archaeological Park, Cambodia.[1][2][3]

History

The Wat is one of the 35 Wats inside the protected zones of the Angkor area, under the APSARA National Authority.[4] In 2026 it was one of five Wats in the first stage of a master plan for the Wats of the Angkor Archaeological Park.[3][5]

Religious life

On the afternoon of April 28, 2026, 328 young men and women had their heads shaved in the grounds of the Wat. The young men were ordained as novices and the young women took the precepts as silavati (lay women in white), for five days of training in monastic discipline and Buddhist teaching that ended on May 2, ahead of Visak Bochea.[1][2] The Siem Reap town office of the monastic order organized the ordination. The town's yearly Visak Bochea ordination began in 2011, paused in 2020 and 2021 and by 2026 had ordained nearly 8,000 young people.[6]
