Wat
Wat Puthic Khmer Krom
Wat Puthic Khmer Krom is a Khmer Krom Buddhist Wat on Symes Road in Waterloo Corner, north of Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.[1][2]
History
The Khmer Krom Buddhist Monastery of South Australia was founded in 2005. Its first Wat was a rented rural home in Waterloo Corner, with one resident monk. With gifts from Khmer Krom families and friends, the monastery then bought part of the former Adelaide Equestrian Centre on Symes Road. The buildings were run down, and the community renovated and built on the site to make a place of worship, a center for education and a place for Khmer Krom festivals and ceremonies.[2] The community's own pages give the site as 141 Symes Road.[3][2][1] An earlier description gives the land as Lot 96 of the former Adelaide Equestrian Centre.[2]
Religious life
The Wat follows the Theravada tradition.[1] It has had two permanent resident monks, and monks from Cambodia, Melbourne and other states have come to stay for periods of time.[2]
