Wat Svay Romiet (វត្តស្វាយរមៀត) is a Buddhist Wat beside a baray (an ancient reservoir) in Teuk Vil commune, Siem Reap, Cambodia.[1][2]
History
Its formal name is វត្តបារាយណ៍មហានទីរតនារាម.[1] The Wat stands in Banteay Chheu village[2] and is one of the 35 Wats inside the protected zones of the Angkor area, under the APSARA National Authority.[3]
Religious life
As of 2025 and 2026, the abbot was Preah Sachchanupal Neum Vuthy.[1][4] By the Wat's own custom, its Kathina robe procession travels across the water of the baray. On October 19, 2025, the Wat committee and lay followers carried the Kathina offerings over the reservoir and raised more than 25 million riel. In 2025 the Wat had 50 monks and novices. As in other years, the offerings paid for their daily meals, and part went to contract teachers.[2][1]
On January 7, 2026, the abbot led a bon phka prak (បុណ្យផ្កាប្រាក់, a festival of money trees, offered to raise funds) to pay for a new building, 12 m by 8 m (39 by 26 ft), at Banteay Chheu primary school. The building was expected to cost US$6,000.[5][6]
On September 3, 2026, during Vassa, the rains retreat, a Khmer donor living in Germany gave 3 tonnes of rice to feed the monks who were studying and keeping the retreat at the Wat.[4]
