Wat Thmei (Siem Reap)

វត្តទេពពោធិវង្ស

Wat Thmei (វត្តទេពពោធិវង្ស, Wat Tep Pothivong) is a Buddhist Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia.[1]

History

The Wat is also called Wat Kbal Khmoch.[1] It is one of the 35 Wats inside the protected zones of the Angkor area, under the APSARA National Authority.[2]

Religious life

On May 20, 2025, the Siem Reap provincial administration held the National Day of Remembrance at Wat Thmei, to dedicate merit to the victims of Democratic Kampuchea (1975 to 1979). Samdech Preah Brahma Rattanamony Pin Sem, president of the Thera Sabha, the council of senior monks of Cambodian Buddhism, presided.[1]

On April 4, 2025, 108 young men had their heads shaved and were ordained for a short period at the Wat, to learn Buddhist ethics. The Siem Reap town office of the monastic order and the provincial department of cults and religion organized the ordination, with support from monks and lay Buddhists from Myanmar.[3]
