Description
A Nail the Evening Hangs On is a debut poetry collection that illuminates the experiences of the Cambodian diaspora and reflects on the United States role in escalating the genocide in Cambodia. The poems travel from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, where Tuol Sleng and other war museums reshape the imagination of a child of refugees, to New York City and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where intergenerational trauma persists in daily life. Publication and editions
The collection was published in 2020 by Copper Canyon Press and followed Sok's 2015 chapbook Year Zero. Sok is a Cambodian American poet, the daughter of Cambodian refugees who left Phnom Penh in April 1975, and her work addresses Cambodian history, intergenerational trauma, family history and myth-making.
