Wat

Chùa Đìa Muồng (Chùa Khải Tông) is a Khmer Theravada Buddhist Wat in Phước Long commune, Cà Mau province, Vietnam.[1][2]

History

Until the 2025 provincial merger the Wat stood in Vĩnh Lạc hamlet, Vĩnh Phú Đông commune, Phước Long district, Bạc Liêu province. In the middle of the 20th century, villagers digging a pond for fresh water found twelve Buddha images of precious stone and one of wood, all intact. They built a shelter to worship them, and light was believed to shine from the images at night. The villagers then gave land, materials and money to build a Wat for the images and named it Khải Tông Đìa Muồn. During the war it sheltered thousands of people fleeing the bombing.[3]

Religious life

As of 2025 and 2026, the abbot was Hòa thượng (Most Venerable) Lý Sa Mouth.[1][2] On October 26 and 27, 2025, the Wat held its Kathina robe offering at the end of the rains retreat; lay groups from Chùa Đìa Muồng and Chùa Khna Rộn offered robes and the four requisites, and the monks carried the robes three times around the main hall.[1] On April 13, 2026, the chair of the provincial People's Council brought Khmer New Year (Chol Chnam Thmey) gifts to the abbot and the Wat committee.[2] On April 16, 2026, at the close of the New Year festival, the abbot led the bathing of the Buddha images and a memorial rite for ancestors.[4]
