Cambodian American memoirist and speaker who survived the Khmer Rouge period as a child.
Chanrithy Him is a Cambodian American writer and speaker who survived the Khmer Rouge period as a child and escaped Cambodia with her siblings in 1981 with sponsorship from a relative in Oregon. Her memoir When Broken Glass Floats was published in 2000, and she later published the young adult novel Rise of the Golden Aura in 2017. Since 1989 she has worked as a research associate on the Khmer Adolescent Project, a federally funded study of post-traumatic stress disorder among young Cambodian refugees, and she speaks at schools and conferences in the United States and internationally.
