Synopsis
This documentary follows Thet Sambath's ten-year effort to obtain confessions and explanations from former Khmer Rouge officials and cadres involved in the Cambodian genocide and Killing Fields. It includes interviews with Nuon Chea and other former perpetrators, alongside Sambath's account of losing his mother, father and brother during Democratic Kampuchea. The film also documents encounters between former perpetrators and Cambodian survivors living in the United States. (Wikipedia)
Production and credits
The world premiere took place at the 2009 International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam, and the film was later altered for its 2010 Sundance premiere. It won the 2010 Sundance World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Prize and was shown in more than 80 film festivals worldwide. (Wikipedia; PBS)
