Intermediate Cambodian Reader
Intermediate Cambodian Reader is a 1972 Khmer textbook by Franklin E. Huffman, with readings and glossaries for intermediate learners.[1][2][3] Yale University Press published it in New Haven. It follows Huffman's Cambodian System of Writing and Beginning Reader and aims to bring students to the point of reading Cambodian texts with a dictionary.[2]
About the resource
Huffman edited the reader with Im Proum. Part One has 37 readings, graded by length and difficulty and printed whole and unedited. They include folktales, essays on Cambodian culture and on the monuments of Angkor, news stories and editorials, and the whole of Rim Kin's novel Sophat. Part Two is a Cambodian-English glossary of about 6,000 words.[2] It is also available as an e-book.[3] Monash University prescribed it in 1998 for its course in Intermediate Cambodian (Khmer), alongside Huffman's Modern Spoken Cambodian and his beginning reader.[4]
Access
As of 2026, the Yale University Press edition sells for $50.00.[1]
